Streams, planted tunnels, sand areas and gardens allow the botanic landscape to be explored through touch, movement and play. The design does not miniaturise an adult garden; it creates a distinct landscape in which plants are active parts of the experience.
Logs, rocks, sand and small water courses create a landscape requiring climbing, balance and route finding. The design integrates with Royal Park and avoids the repeated plastic modules of a conventional playground.
Workshops, rehearsals and temporary projects bring professional artists together with young participants. The riverside building operates as a laboratory for theatre, music, movement and visual art rather than a venue where children simply receive finished content.
The octagonal dome organises desks, galleries and overhead light within one of Melbourne’s most recognisable civic interiors. Exhibitions and collections connect books, documents and public memory with a building still used for study.
