The lift ascent compresses the transition between street and observation deck. Within seconds, the immediate references of Surfers Paradise disappear and a panorama far wider than the tourism centre takes their place. Movement from an enclosed cabin into a level surrounded by glass turns the opening of the horizon into part of the architecture.
Windows provide views in several directions. To the east, the ocean occupies an immense surface separated from the sky by an almost continuous horizon. Colour changes with cloud, depth and sun angle. Waves appear as white bands parallel to the beach and make the constant energy of the Pacific visible.
Surfers Paradise beach extends as a pale strip between sea and buildings. From above, its continuity, shoreline form and direct relationship with avenues, hotels and residential towers become clear. Sand creates a broad horizontal field contrasting with the vertical centre.
To north and south, development follows the coast for many kilometres. Towers, houses, shopping centres and roads create an almost continuous band interrupted by rivers, parks and areas of lower density. SkyPoint Climb uses the exterior upper part of the tower and adds a direct relationship with structure, wind and void. Walkways, attachment systems and inclined surfaces turn the architectural crown into a vertical route different from the enclosed observation deck.
